THE BOSTON STOCK EXCHANGE [BSE]

The Boston Stock Exchange

The Boston Stock Exchange [BSE] is the third oldest stock exchange in the United States; it was founded in 1834 located in Boston, Massachusetts. As a national, registered securities exchange, the BSE provides a competitive marketplace for companies in various stages of development and from a multitude of industries seeking to increase exposure to investors and raise capital within a secure and regulated environment. Approximately 20% of the BSE's companies are headquartered in the New England region while the remainder is located throughout the country or outside of the U.S.

History of Boston Stock exchange from 1830s Bostonians looking for new ways to invest the wealth they had earned through shipping banking and insurance. Thirteen business leaders founded the Boston Stock Exchange in 1834, creating a meeting place for local stock brokers to trade their shares

BOSTON STOCK EXCHANGE

Today, the BSE is an integral part of Boston's financial community, which is the third largest investment management center in the world, eclipsed only by New York and London. Boston, the birthplace of the mutual fund, is now arguably the "mutual fund capital" of the world with literally trillions of dollars invested in funds managed here. The Boston Stock Exchange supervises and governs all dealings on the Boston Equities Exchange LLC trading facility and the Boston Options Exchange LLC trading facility.

The Boston Stock Exchange is basically a self-regulatory authority consisting of "members" who are either broker-dealers or organizations that specialize in carrying out the deals of shares on the Boston Stock Exchange, have to be registered with the Securities and Exchange Council (SEC) or the NASD (in a few cases). Some current members of the Boston Stock Exchange include ABN AMRO Incorporated, Morgan Stanley & Co, Moors & Cabot, Inc, HSBC Securities (USA) Inc., and Deutsche Bank Securities Inc.
